Por ello existen sistemas que controlan cambios en las variables que lo forman para poner en marcha respuestas compensatorias.     el ox\u00edgeno y la glucosa son dos de las variables m\u00e1s importantes que se deben controlar.     en esta tesis doctoral se ha estudiado como las c\u00e9lulas cromafines de la m\u00e9dula adrenal detectan bajada en los niveles de oxigeno durante la etapa neonatal y adulta de la rata y como las c\u00e9lulas glomicas del cuerpo carotideo detectan tanto cambios en la tensi\u00f3n de oxigeno como bajada en la concentraci\u00f3n de glucosa.     para este estudio se han utilizado diversas t\u00e9cnicas que incluyen rodajas de tejidos y cultivos de c\u00e9lulas dispersas. En estas preparaciones se han empleado t\u00e9cnicas de electrofisiolog\u00eda (amperometr\u00eda, patch-clamp y fluorimetr\u00eda), histologicas y de biolog\u00eda molecular.     los principales resultados obtenidos muestran que la capacidad de las c\u00e9lulas cromafines para detectar directamente la bajada en la presi\u00f3n parcial de oxigeno disminuye aunque no desaparece con la maduraci\u00f3n de la rata. Esto no parece deberse a un estado de menor excitabilidad en las c\u00e9lulas cromafines de animales adultos.     respecto al mecanismo sensor de hipoxia aguda en las c\u00e9lulas glomicales, hemos encontrado que la respuesta secretora a la hipoxia se elimina espec\u00edficamente al utilizar previamente el inhibidor del complejo i rotenora o el mpp+. Parece por tanto que una diana espec\u00edfica de la rotenona pueda esta implicada en este mecanismo sensor.
