Por \u00faltimo, para cumplir con los requerimientos exigidos para optar a la menci\u00f3n de doctorado europeo se incluye un abstract en ingl\u00e9s de la tesis.  en el cap\u00edtulo i se hace una introducci\u00f3n a las metaloenzimas que contienen n\u00edquel en su centro activo. En el cap\u00edtulo ii se describe la reactividad del n\u00edquel frente a mol\u00e9culas sencillas de inter\u00e9s biol\u00f3gico. En el cap\u00edtulo iii se presentan los complejos de n\u00edquel pentacoordinado con ligandos carbonato puente que sirven como modelos de anhidrasa carb\u00f3nica y fijan co2(g).
