A pesar de ello, estas c\u00e9lulas son capaces de sobrevivir y proliferar, lo que lleva a pensar que estos niveles elevados de eros juegan un papel importante en la estimulaci\u00f3n de la proliferaci\u00f3n celular y que, por tanto, las mol\u00e9culas coc capacidad antioxidante pueden resultar \u00fatiles como agente antitumorales.  los gliomas constituyen un grupo de tumores muy proliferativos y peligrosos (debido a su localizaci\u00f3n en el snc). Se consideran incurables, por lo que las estrategias terap\u00e9uticas se orientan al aumento de la supervivencia y calidad de vida de los pacientes. Su localizaci\u00f3n constituye uno de los problemas en su tratamiento, ya que los agentes antitumorales empleados deben ser capaces de atravesar la barrera hematoencef\u00e9lica (bhe).  debido a su naturaleza ind\u00f3lica, la melatonian es capaz de atravesar todas las membranas biol\u00f3gicas, incluida la bhe. Su capacidad antiproliferativa ha sido demostrada anteriormente sobre diversos tipos de c\u00e9lulas tumorales y, adem\u00e1s, resulta ser un potente antioxidante celular, por lo qeu hemos estudiado su efecto en c\u00e9lulas de glioma de rata compar\u00e1ndolo con su efecto en c\u00e9lulas gliales normales (cultivo primario de astrocitos). Este indol presenta una potente acci\u00f3n antiproliferativa en c\u00e9lulas gliales tumorales y normales sin producir da\u00f1o celulas y\/o muerte por apoptosis y que parece estar relacionada con su capacidad para disminuir los niveles de eros intracelulares, as\u00ed como para inhibir la activaci\u00f3n del factor de transcripci\u00f3n nfkb-un factor sensible al estado redox celular-.
