En cambio, el papel que juega la apoa-ii en el metabolismo lipoproteico y en el desarrollo de la arteriosclerosis es menos conocido.  la l\u00ednea de ratones transg\u00e9nico con m\u00e1s expresi\u00f3n de apoa-ii humana (l\u00ednea 11.1) alimentada con dieta aterog\u00e9nica desarrolla hiperlipemia combinada, deficiente de hdl y aumento notable de susceptibilidad a la arteriosclerosis. los ratones transg\u00e9nicos de apoa-ii humana de la l\u00ednea 11.1 presentaron un gran aumento del \u00e1rea de tinci\u00f3n para ep\u00edtopos derivados de oxidaci\u00f3n en estas lesiones respecto de los controles. En el estudio de las propiedades antioxidantes de las hdl de los ratones 11.1, \u00e9stas presentaron una menor capacidad de protecci\u00f3n frente a la oxidaci\u00f3n de lipoprote\u00ednas con apob, que las hdl de ratones controles y que los transg\u00e9nicos 25.3 (baja expresi\u00f3n de apoa-ii). Las hdl de los ratones transg\u00e9nicos 11.1 presentaron una composici\u00f3n alterada con gran cantidad de apoa-ii humana, y disminuci\u00f3n de apoa-i, pon1 y paf-ah, que probablemente explican la menor protecci\u00f3n frente a la oxidaci\u00f3n que proveen estas hdl. Estos cambiasen las part\u00edculas de hdl no son debidos a cambios en la transcripci\u00f3n de los genes de apoa-i, pon1, paf-ah, lcat. Sin embargo, ensayos in vitro se comprob\u00f3 que la apoa-ii humana es capaz de desplazar la pon1 de la part\u00edcula de hdl. La alteraci\u00f3n en la capacidad antioxidante de las hdl de transg\u00e9nicos 11.1 explicar, al menos en parte, la susceptibilidad a la arteriosclerosis aumentada en estos animales en dieta
