Su manufactura y utilizaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como el desmantelamiento de instalaiones de tratamiento de este explosivo ha provocado la contaminaci\u00f3n de acuiferos y de amplias zonas de suelo. Su alta toxicidad, sumado a su car\u00e1cter mutag\u00e9nico, adem\u00e1s de los extremadamente dificil que resulta su degradaci\u00f3n, son las razones que lo han convestido en uno de los contamiantes prioritarios a eliminar por parte de muchas agencias ambientales gubernamentales.  la toxicidad y car\u00e1cter recalcitante se deben, sobre todo, a la presencia de tres grupos nitro, muy electornegativos, distribuidos sim\u00e9tricamente alrededor del anillo arom\u00e1tico que impide un ataque por enzimas oxigenasas. por tanto, la eliminaci\u00f3n de estos grupos nitro genera compuestos que se pueden metabolizar y degradar  hasta di\u00f3xido de carbono y agua. Pseudomonas putida jlr11 es una bacteria que se aisl\u00f3 en el grupo de degradaci\u00f3n de t\u00f3xicos org\u00e1nicos (dot) por ser capaz de asimilar hasta el 85% del nitr\u00f3geno del tnt, favoreciendo con ello su degradaci\u00f3n.  los objetos de esta tesis se han centrado en el estudio de las rutas de asimilaci\u00f3n del n-tnt en esta cepa, y se ha demostrado por primera vez la existencia de dos rutas alternativas capaces de metabolizar los grupos nitro del tnt en la misma bacteria, de manera que estos pueden liberarse del anillo arom\u00e1tico en forma de nitrito o de amonio. La caracterizaci\u00f3n de mutantes en pasos claves para la asimiliaci\u00f3n de estas fuentes de nitr\u00f3geno demustra que el nitr\u00f3geno del tnt se inc\u00f3rpora a esqueletos carbonados de la bacteria por la ruta gs-gogat. Adem\u00e1s, seha caracterizo un enzima nitroreductrasa, denominado pnra, que participa de manera clave en el metabolismo del nitr\u00f3geno del tnt mediante la reducci\u00f3n de \u00e9ste hasta 4-hidroxilamino-2,6 dinitrotoluno (4-hadnt).
