Para abordar este estudio se han utilizado t\u00e9cnicas inmunohistoqu\u00edmicas, bioqu\u00edmicas y de biolog\u00eda molecular.  los resultados obtenidos indican que los oligodendrocitos de este tejido presentan receptores ionotr\u00f3picos de \u00e1cido glut\u00e1mico ampa y kainato, cuya activaci\u00f3n prologada produce la muerte celular apopt\u00f3tica, mediante un mecanismo que requiere la activaci\u00f3n de la caspasa-3. Estas condiciones de excitotoxicidad disminuyen la expresi\u00f3n de la fosfatasa nuclear mkp-1 y aumentan la expresi\u00f3n de la fosfatasa citoplasm\u00e1tica mkp-3. Se comprob\u00f3 que un breve est\u00edmulo excitot\u00f3xico tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 implicado en la muerte celular, ya que sensibiliza a las c\u00e9lulas del nervio \u00f3ptico al ataque del complemento. En estas condiciones se observ\u00f3 que disminuye la expresi\u00f3n de mol\u00e9culas clave de la ruta de las map quinasas, as\u00ed como de sus reguladores. los resultados obtenidos indican que la muerte oligodendroglial apopt\u00f3tica no s\u00f3lo est\u00e1 mediada por receptores de \u00e1cido glut\u00e1mico, sino que tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 mediada por la activaci\u00f3n prolongada de la subclase de receptores purin\u00e9rgicos p2x7. En estas condiciones, se comprob\u00f3 que la muerte oligodendroglial tambi\u00e9n requiere la activaci\u00f3n de la caspasa-3. Por tanto, estos resultados sugieren que el conocimiento de los componentes intracelulares implicados en estos mecanismos de muerte celular y el papel que desempe\u00f1a cada uno de ellos, es importante para poder desarrollar nuevos agentes terap\u00e9uticos para el tratamiento de enfermedades neurol\u00f3gicas que impliquen la p\u00e9rdida de
