Este microorganismo ha sido el agente causal de mortalidades en rodaballo cultivado en galicia, entre los a\u00f1os 1987 y 1991. En contraste con la alta heterogeneidad antigenica detectada, se ha puesto de manifiesto la practica ausencia de variabilidad fenotipica dentro de esta especie.  los ensayos de virulencia \u00abin vivo\u00bb han revelado que el rango de hospedadores de las cepas patogenas es muy amplio. Posteriormente, se ha tratado de esclarecer los aspectos clave de su patogeneidad. En este sentido, la potente toxina con actividad fosfolipasica\/hemolitica\/citotoxica (\u00abdamselisina\u00bb) secretada por las cepas desempe\u00f1a un papel fundamental en su mecanismo de virulencia, siendo la principal responsable de las alteraciones histologicas producidas en el hospedador. El sistema de captacion de hierro ejerce, asimismo, una funcion importante en dicho mecanismo.  desde el punto de vista epizootiologico, se ha demostrado una gran persistencia de vibrio damsela en aguas y sedimentos marinos (reservorios). Ademas, la epidermis constituye una de las principales rutas de entrada del microorganismo en animales acuaticos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
