Aunque est\u00e1n ampliamente distribuidos en la naturaleza y en muchos casos tienen efectos beneficiosos, su estudio ha venido impulsado tras descubrirse su relaci\u00f3n con infecciones  cr\u00f3nicas asociadas tanto a implantes m\u00e9dicos como a tejidos (infecciones del o\u00eddo medio, pr\u00f3stata, neumon\u00eda en pacientes con fibrosis qu\u00edstica, osteomielitis, etc). En el interior del biofilm, las bacterias presentan una mayor resistencia a los antibi\u00f3ticos, a la opsonizaci\u00f3n por anticuerpos y a la fagocitosis, lo cual explica el car\u00e1cter cr\u00f3nico de estas infecciones. aunque en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ha habido una explosi\u00f3n en el n\u00famero de art\u00edculos que describen nuevas facetas de la biolog\u00eda de los biofilms, los mecanismos gen\u00e9ticos implicados en el proceso de formaci\u00f3n de biofilms son pr\u00e1cticamente desconocidos. Con el convencimiento de que s\u00f3lo a trav\u00e9s de un conocimiento preciso del proceso podremos identificar dianas susceptibles para el desarrollo de f\u00e1rmacos que nos ayuden a combatir las infecciones asociadas a los biofilms, esta tesis doctoral se ha centrado en la caracterizaci\u00f3n del proceso de formaci\u00f3n del biofilm de staphy\/ococcus aureus, una de las especies bacterianas m\u00e1s frecuentemente relacionada con infecciones de implantes m\u00e9dicos.  el punto de partida fue la prote\u00edna bap (biofilm associated protein), identificada en un trabajo previo por nuestro grupo de investigaci\u00f3n mediante mutag\u00e9nesis por transposici\u00f3n de la cepa s. Aureus v329. Bap presenta una organizaci\u00f3n estructural similar a otras prote\u00ednas de superficie de funci\u00f3n desconocida en diferentes especies bacterianas como: esp de e. Faecalis, mus20 de pseudomonas putida, y sty2875 de sa\/monel\/a typhi. Teniendo en cuenta la homolog\u00eda estructural entre bap y esp, decidimos analizar si exist\u00eda una relaci\u00f3n entre la presencia del gen esp y l<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
