Estudios recientes indican que es una de las actividades que m\u00e1s tiempo ocupa de los directivos empresariales. Como medio habitual para instruir, guiar, supervisar y motivar a los subordinados, el uso eficaz del correo electr\u00f3nico es una de las responsabilidades fundamentales de las personas que mandan en las organizaciones. sin embargo, hasta la fecha no se han realizado investigaciones que indiquen el tipo de objetivos organizacionales que le correo electr\u00f3nico podr\u00eda promover mejor. En cambio, la bibliograf\u00eda sobre la comunicaci\u00f3n mediante ordenadores le asigna papeles contradictorios. Algunos investigadores proponen que el correo electr\u00f3nico es una  herramienta para promover innovaci\u00f3n, porque ayuda a superar barreras jer\u00e1rquicas y log\u00edsticas, as\u00ed como a incrementar el nivel general de la comunicaci\u00f3n. Otros explican que el correo electr\u00f3nico es el memorando organizacional tradicional simplemente transmitido de otra manera, y por consiguiente, un instrumento b\u00e1sico para mantener y reforzar la estabilidad, los m\u00e9todos y los valores existentes de la organizaci\u00f3n.  este estudio, basado en un quasi-experimento utilizando una encuesta codificada, explora la percepci\u00f3n de los subordinados sobre la utilidad de los correos electr\u00f3nicos recibidos de sus superiores en funci\u00f3n del tipo general de objetivo organizacional que los directivos pretenden promover. La categorizaci\u00f3n de los objetivos organizacionales se basa en investigaciones anteriores sobre el liderazgo organizacional .Trice y beyer (1991; 1993) distinguen estilos de liderazgo y sus implicaciones organizacionales como de tipo \u00abmantenimiento\u00bb o de \u00abinnovaci\u00f3n\u00bb.
