La trehalosa es un disac\u00e1rido muy estudiado en levaduras y hongos filamentosos donde cumple una doble funci\u00f3n: (i) carbohidrato de reserva y (ii) compuesto protector de la integridad frente a distintas situaciones de estr\u00e9s. Los genes responsables de la bios\u00edntesis y la degradaci\u00f3n de trehalosa en c. Albicans (tps1 y ntc1, respectivamente) han sido clonados y secuenciados. Sin embargo, este pat\u00f3geno contiene un tercer gen con actividad trehalasa, de funci\u00f3n desconocida y cuyo producto se localiza en la superficie celular. Trabajos previos suger\u00edan que pod\u00eda tratarse de una trehalasa \u00e1cida.  identificaci\u00f3n e interrupci\u00f3n del gen atc1.  despu\u00e9s del rastreo de una base de datos del genoma de c. Albicans, (http:\/\/genolist.Pasteur.Fr\/candidadb) el producto de una orf (ipf 19760\/ca2574) que tiene un 41% de homolog\u00eda con la trehalasa \u00e1cida (ath1p) de saccharomyces cerevisiae, seg\u00fan la secuencia aminoac\u00eddica deducida (blast), fue identificada y denominada atc1p (acid trehalase of candida).  para investigar la funci\u00f3n de atc1p, se construyeron mutantes nulos mediante la t\u00e9cnica del \u00abura-blaster\u00bb, que utiliza el casete de disrupci\u00f3n hisg::ura3::hisg que sustituye una parte de la orf de atc1. Los transformantes seleccionados fueron analizados por southern blot para comprobar que hab\u00edan insertado el fragmento deseado en el locus de atc1.  localizaci\u00f3n de la prote\u00edna  se analizaron por western blot las especies prot\u00e9icas de las distintas fracciones subcelulares usando un anticuerpo policlonal obtenido contra un oligop\u00e9ptido sint\u00e9tico de atc1p.
