La mayor\u00eda de sujetos con eaop se encuentran asintom\u00e1ticos, si bien numerosos estudios epidemiol\u00f3gicos han demostrado que presentan un elevado riesgo de sufrir complicaciones y muerte cardiovascular. Un m\u00e9todo diagn\u00f3stico para determinar la presencia de eaop es el itb, prueba sencilla, barata y reproducible que presenta una alta sensibilidad y especificidad. la mayor\u00eda de los estudios consideran la presencia de un itb disminuido cuando este es inferior a 0,9.
