Este inusitado inter\u00e9s se fundamenta, entre otros factores, en su crecimiento incidencia en el colectivo docente, en los costes (personales, laborales, sanitarios, sociales, &#8230;) Que representa, y en la urgen necesidad de identificar los flancos por los que la prevenci\u00f3n y\/o intervenci\u00f3n deben emprender su ataque. A\u00f1adida a estas consideraciones, la notable ausencia de estudios acerca del estr\u00e9s o burmout en los profesores universitarios, constituyen el argumento, dise\u00f1o y planteamiento de este trabajo.  en efecto, esta investigaci\u00f3n aborda desde una perspectiva integradora el malestar laboral, incluyendo sus distintas manifestaciones (estr\u00e9s, bornout e insatisfacci\u00f3n laboral) en los docentes universitarios. El trabajo se ha dividido en dos partes claramente diferenciadas: parte te\u00f3rica y parte emp\u00edrica.  en la primera parte, que comprende cuatro cap\u00edtulos, adem\u00e1s del acercamiento hist\u00f3rico-conceptual, se profundiza en las distintas variables que intervienen en el \u00abproceso\u00bb de malestar laboral, sin descuidar la siempre obligada revisi\u00f3n de la literatura al respecto. Concretamente, los avatares definicionales (con sus consiguiente pol\u00e9micas y controversias), el desarrollo de los principales modelos explicativos y la evaluaci\u00f3n del estr\u00e9s y del burmout dan cuerpo al cap\u00edtulo 1. En el cap\u00edtulo 2 se realiza una acercamiento a los \u00abelementos\u00bb del proceso que da cobertura a las fuentes y a los distintos tipos de respuesta (psicol\u00f3gica vs.Fisiol\u00f3gica) de estr\u00e9s. El recorrido por los distintos factores modulares del proceso de estr\u00e9s adquiere protagonismo en el cap\u00edtulo 3; en particular, el apoyo social, el afrontamiento y algunas variables de
