Nacido en Valencia y muerto en berlin (rda), su biografia ha sido dividida en tres partes: la epoca Valenciana (1907-1939), el exilio mexicano (1939-1957) y la etapa berlinesa (1958-1982). Se analizan sus diferentes fases estilisticas desde un punto de vista cronologico-analitico: etapa art-deco, fotomontaje y vanguardias comunistas de entreguerras, cartelismo de guerra civil, muralismo mexicano, dise\u00f1o grafico de los a\u00f1os cuarenta y cincuenta, fotomontajes en los aleda\u00f1os del pop art, pinturas murales en la rda y su ultimo periodo de actividad memorialista. Se acompa\u00f1an con dos apendices biblio-archivisticos: \u00abel artista en sus libros: la bibloteca josep renau\u00bb y \u00abla memoria fosil: el archivo josep renau\u00bb, y el catalogo razonado
