El problema se aborda desde dos perspectivas diferentes, que dan lugar a las dos partes en que se ha dividido el documento. La primera parte est\u00e1 dedicada a los m\u00e9todos de medida de emisiones contaminantes que se han empleado hasta ahora y a los modelos de estimaci\u00f3n de emisiones que se han derivado de los antedichos m\u00e9todos de medida. Con este fin, se centra el problema en los contaminantes dependientes del desarrollo del proceso de combusti\u00f3n (co, hc, nox y pm) que se generan con el motor caliente. Se repasan los  distintos m\u00e9todos de medida de emisiones y la utilidad cada uno de ellos, lo cual conduce a una revisi\u00f3n de los m\u00e9todos estad\u00edsticos que permiten estimar las cantidades de emisiones generadas por todo el parque de veh\u00edculos (inventarias de emisiones). Para comprobar la validez de dichos m\u00e9todos de estimaci\u00f3n, se realiza un inventario circunscrito a la zona central de la-ciudad de Madrid. Para ello, se emplea la metodolog\u00eda copert 111, complementada con datos experimentales. Entre las conclusiones del inventario destaca que los veh\u00edculos antiguos, que representan un 36% del parque, son responsables del 78% yel 89% de las emisiones de co y hc respectivamente. las emisiones de nox y pm, en cambio, no est\u00e1n tan afectadas por la fracci\u00f3n de veh\u00edculos antiguos debido a la dieselizaci\u00f3n experimentada por el parque en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os.  el documento contin\u00faa con un an\u00e1lisis cr\u00edtico de los modelos de estimaci\u00f3n. entre las caracteristicas positivas de dichos modelos se identifican las siguientes: f\u00e1cil aplicaci\u00f3n y disponibilidad, uso conjunto de los m\u00e9todos bottom-up y top-down y posibilidad de pronosticar escenarios futuros.
