Ortiz Ana Isabel <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El trabajo de investigaci\u00f3n desarrollo en esta tesis doctoral presenta una doble finalidad.Por un lado se aborda de forma global la resoluci\u00f3n de los problemas anal\u00edticos que se presentan en la determinaci\u00f3n del contenido total de mercurio y selenio y sus especies en muestras de inter\u00e9s biol\u00f3gico y nutricional.Para ello se han desarrollado nuevos m\u00e9todos de tratamiento de muestra que mejoran las prestaciones de los ya existentes, en cuanto a reducci\u00f3n del tiempo empleado , simplicidad en el procedimiento y aumento de las recuperaciones;preservando en todo momento las especies originalmente presentes en la muestra.  por otra parte, la nueva metodolog\u00eda anal\u00edtica desarrollada y validada, se ha aplicado a la determinaci\u00f3n del contenido total de mercurio y selenio y sus especies e interaci\u00f3n con prote\u00ednas en alimentos de elevado consumo (principal v\u00eda de entrada de mercurio y selenio en el organismo).Asimismo se ha estimando la eficiencia del aporte de estos elementos a trav\u00e9s de la dieta , despu\u00e9s de evaluar su biodisponibilidad.Paralelamente los resultados obtenidos se han utilizado como herramienta para conocer los mecanismos de acumulaci\u00f3n, distribuci\u00f3n , transformaci\u00f3n e interacci\u00f3n del mercurio y selenio en animales.Al mismo tiempo se han evaluado posibles formas de reducir la toxicidad del mercurio a trav\u00e9s la suplementaci\u00f3n en la dieta de materiales absorbentes no nutritivos y antag\u00f3nicos de la toxicidad
