Este mineral, al descomponerse durante la cocci\u00f3n, produce un desprendimiento de co2 que puede originar defectos en el producto acabado.  en este trabajo se ha obtenido una expresi\u00f3n matem\u00e1tica que relaciona el grado de conversi\u00f3n de las part\u00edculas de calcita, contenidas en el soporte de los azulejos, con las variables de operaci\u00f3n.  en primer lugar se ha estudiado el proceso de descomposici\u00f3n t\u00e9rmica de las part\u00edculas de calcita aisladas, proponiendo una ecuaci\u00f3n de velocidad basada en el modelo cin\u00e9tico \u00abde reacci\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea\u00bb o \u00abde conversi\u00f3n uniforme\u00bb.  partiendo de la ecuaci\u00f3n de velocidad deducida para las part\u00edculas de calcita, se ha propuesto una expresi\u00f3n matem\u00e1tica, basada en el modelo cin\u00e9tico \u00abde n\u00facleo sin reaccionar\u00bb, que relaciona el grado de conversi\u00f3n de las part\u00edculas de calcita contenidas en la pieza con las diferentes variables de operaci\u00f3n: tiempo, temperatura, espesor de la pieza, compacidad de la pieza y contenido en calcita.  la ecuaci\u00f3n diferencial obtenida permite reproducir con suficiente exactitud los resultados experimentales en condiciones isot\u00e9rmicas. Asimismo, es susceptible de ser aplicada en condiciones no isot\u00e9rmicas, similares a las que se efect\u00faa la cocci\u00f3n de los azulejos en la pr\u00e1ctica
