Este gen se expresa en los cuerpos neuronales de las c\u00e9lulas fotoreceptoras.  se identificaron 2 genes de la familia six\/sineoculis en planarias: gtsix 1 y gtsix 3.  el gen gtsix 1 se expresa en los cuerpos neuronales de las c\u00e9lulas fotoreceptores de los ojos adultos de planarias. Este gen es necesario para el mantenimiento del estado diferenciado de las c\u00e9lulas fotoreceptoras y es esecial para la regeneraci\u00f3n de los ojos de estos organismos.  el gen gtsix3 se expresa en un grupo de c\u00e9lulas envolviendo a los ganglios cef\u00e1licos que corresponder\u00eda a la parte distal de las ramas cef\u00e1licas que conectar\u00edan los ganglios cef\u00e1licos con los distintos sensores distribuidos a lo largo de los m\u00e1rgenes de la cabeza.  finalmente, se han identificado dos genes de la familia pax6; pax6a y pax6b, que estan altamente conservados en las dos especies de planaria dujesia japonica y girardia tigrina. Pax6a es mucho mas similar a otras proteinas pax6 que pax6b, que ser\u00eda el gen pax6 mas divergente conocido.  los hom\u00f3logos de pax6 de planarias no muestran una clara ortolog\u00eda con los genes duplicados de drosophilia, eyeless y twin of eyeless, cosa que nos sugiere una duplicaci\u00f3n independiente en algun tr\u00edclado o platihelminto ancestral.  pax6a se expresa en el sistema nervioso central de las planarias intactas, marcando tanto c\u00e9lulas de los ganglios cef\u00e1licos como de los cordones nerviosos ventrales y su expresi\u00f3n se activa durante el procso de regenaraci\u00f3n de la cabeza. Pax6b sigue un patr\u00f3n de expresi\u00f3n muy similar pero con unos niveles de expresi\u00f3n mucho m\u00e1s bajos. Se detectan transcritos de pax6a y pax6b en las c\u00e9lulas visuales solo a nivel ultraestructural, debido problamente a la presencia de una cantidad muy limitada  de estos
