Ademas se reconstruyen los tiempos de divergencia y las areas ancestrales de distribucion geografica de los distintos linajes. Tambien se estudian las tasas de diversificacion de los distintos grupos estudiados y se relacionan con caracteristicas biologicas. Finalmente se explora la evolucion de caracteres morfologicos basandonos en las reconstrucciones filogeneticas.  el segundo capitulo explora las relaciones filogeneticas de las 74 especies del genero erodium usando el marcador plastidial trnl-trnf. Tambien se estudia la evolucion de 24 caracteres morfologicos basandonos en estas reconstrucciones filogeneticas.  el tercer capitulo explora las relaciones filogeneticas de las 74 especies del genero erodium usando el marcador nuclear its, asi como analisis combinados de este marcador con el plastidial trnl-trnf. En este capitulo se investiga el origen de la reticulacion en las especies del genero erodium y finalmente se reconstruyen las posibles areas ancestrales biogeograficas.  el cuarto capitulo trata de las tasas de evolucion molecular en el orden geraniales y mas en detalle en los generos geranium y erodium, a partir de los marcadores moleculares 18s, rbcl, atpb, its y trnl-f. Se obtienen las tasas de sustitucion nucleotidica bajo distintos metodos evolutivos y se comparan entre los distintos linajes.
