Tradicionalmente, todas las aproximaciones a este objetivo se han basado en los resultados producidos por los detectores de bordes como canny o sobel. Por el contrario, el sistema descrito estar\u00e1 basado en los resultados obtenidos por medio de la descomposici\u00f3n de gabor. La introducci\u00f3n de la descomposici\u00f3n de gabor, un proceso computacionalmente complejo. Mejorar\u00e1 los resultados finales debido a dos motivos fundamentales: el primero es que la descomposici\u00f3n de gabor proporciona informaci\u00f3n global y fiable acerca de la orientaci\u00f3n de los bordes en la escena y la segunda es que no precisa de ajuste de par\u00e1metros por parte del usuario en base a las im\u00e1genes de entrada.  el sistema descrito est\u00e1 dividido en varias etapas. La primera es la extracci\u00f3n de las primitivas direccionales de la imagen por medio de un banco de filtros de gabor distribu\u00eddos en un conjunto de canales de frecuencia (*frecuencias) y de orientaciones (*orientaciones).  debido a que la descomposici\u00f3n de gabor transforma la imagen de entrada en (*frecuencias x *orientaciones) im\u00e1genes de resultado, es necesario integrar la informaci\u00f3n de dichas im\u00e1genes en un \u00fanico resultado. Para ello se utilizar\u00e1 un conjunto de estructuras auto-organizativas basadas en redes de neuronas artificiales, organizadas jer\u00e1rquicamente hasta producir como resultado una \u00fanica imagen pseudo-color en la que el color de un p\u00edxel definir\u00e1 la orientaci\u00f3n del borde correspondiente en la imagen de entrada.  la tercera etapa consiste en la detecci\u00f3n de segmentos en la imagen pseudo-color resultado de los procesamientos anteriores. Para ello se utiliza un detector de segmentos basado en la combinaci\u00f3n de dos detectores de segmentos ampliamente utilizados, la transformada de hough y el detector de segmentos de burns.  la
