En relaci\u00f3n con esto \u00faltimo se comparan dos modelos: el basado en clases logar\u00edtmicas de tama\u00f1os y el basado en la distribuci\u00f3n estad\u00edstica de pareto.  los datos proceden de dos campa\u00f1as oceanogr\u00e1ficas fruelas95 (estrecho de bransfield- mar de bellingshausen) y dharma98 (paso de drake-estrecho de gerlache).  los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto una comunidad pico-nanoplanct\u00f3nica ant\u00e1rtica dominada por c\u00e9lulas de relativo peque\u00f1o tama\u00f1o (ultraplancton), destacando la pr\u00e1ctica ausencia de c\u00e9lulas procariotas fotosint\u00e9ticas. la estructura de tama\u00f1o de dicha comunidad pico-nanoplanct\u00f3nica se ajusta a la distribuci\u00f3n estad\u00edstica de pareto ii, cuyos par\u00e1metros describen adecuadamente la variabilidad del sistema. Dicha distribuci\u00f3n sup9one una clara desviaci\u00f3n respecto a la tendencia general de descenso logar\u00edtmico del tama\u00f1o descrita en sistemas oce\u00e1nicos no ant\u00e1rticos. Gran parte dela comunidad fitoplanct\u00f3nica se concentra en rangos concretos de la distribuci\u00f3n de tama\u00f1os. Hay una clara dependencia en el \u00abtama\u00f1o caracter\u00edstico\u00bb de la comunidad y la concentraci\u00f3n de biomasa.
