In this paper, i examine the effect of m&#038;a on the technological performance of the firms involved in the deal. Applying a matching estimator to data from the u.S. \u00abMedical devices and photographic equipment\u00bb from 1988 to 1996, i find that m&#038;a have a positive effect on patenting output, but
