Estudios previos muestran que esta proyecci\u00f3n comisural esta constituida principalmente por neuronas excitadoras, aunque hay estudios que sugieren la existencia de un peque\u00f1o n\u00famero de neuronas inhibidoras gabaergicas. Aunque la coci es la v\u00eda que conecta a los n\u00facleos m\u00e1s importantes del tronco del enc\u00e9falo del sistema auditivo, su papel funcional es desconocido. Para investigar su funci\u00f3n, hemos registrado la actividad neuronal evocada de las neuronas de un ci mientras inyect\u00e1bamos \u00e1cido quinur\u00e9nico (bloqueante inespec\u00edfico de los receptores de glutamato), dentro del ci contralateral. Despu\u00e9s del bloqueo de la proyecci\u00f3n comisural observamos descensos y aumentos en las respuestas espectrales y temporales. La disminuci\u00f3n de la actividad sugiere que la comisura contiene fibras excitadoras y el aumento fibras inhibidoras y por tanto su efecto puede estar mediado por circuitos monosinapticos o disinapticos excitadores-inhibidores. Adem\u00e1s, los efectos fueron proporcionalmente m\u00e1s grandes a niveles cerca del umbral. Por esta raz\u00f3n concluimos que la proyecci\u00f3n comisural modula el control de la ganancia neuronal del ci. adicionalmente realizamos un estudio de las propiedades fisiol\u00f3gicas b\u00e1sicas de las neuronas del ci en la rata pigmentada para obtener una base control de datos. Para ello registramos los mapas de frecuencia (mdfs ) de 237 neuronas tras estimulaci\u00f3n con tonos puros. Los mdfs se clasificaron seg\u00fan la forma del \u00e1rea como tipo v (69%) y tipo no-v (29%), el resto de las unidades fueron inclasificables. Los mdfs no-v constituye un grupo muy heterog\u00e9neo que incluye respuestas de tipo estrecho, cerrado, de bajas y altas frecuencias, picos m\u00faltiples, con forma de u, mosaico e
