Su intervenci\u00f3n personal en la construcci\u00f3n de su imagen fue limitada aunque significativa. principios b\u00e1sicos de la representaci\u00f3n femenina (seg\u00fan el retrato de corte) fueron la belleza y la virtud. Tambi\u00e9n la decoraci\u00f3n palaciega o las arquitecturas ef\u00edmeras permitieron difundir la imagen de la reina y la feminidad ideal que la monarqu\u00eda de carlos v y felipe ii propugnaba. El coleccionismo de retratos, pintura, escultura, tapices, indumentaria, joyas, objetos ex\u00f3ticos, etc. Permiti\u00f3 a estas mujeres intervenir en la cultura visual del momento. a falta de reinas propietarias como isabel la cat\u00f3lica, los personajes m\u00e1s relevantes del grupo fueron mar\u00eda de hungr\u00eda y la princesa juana de portugal: viudas regentes ambas, alcanzaron protagonismo cultural a trav\u00e9s del mecenazgo (de tiziano, antonio moro o s\u00e1nchez coello entre otros), el coleccionismo y las empresas arquitect\u00f3nicas. La emperatriz isabel de portugal, isabel de valois y ana de austria enfatizaron su apariencia personal como medio de se\u00f1alar su eminente posici\u00f3n dentro de la monarqu\u00eda. La infanta isabel clara eugenia, mar\u00eda de austria, o margarita de austria ejercieron papeles m\u00e1s modestos pero con aportaciones personales de inter\u00e9s. Las clausuras reales (como las descalzas o la encarnaci\u00f3n) constituyeron importantes centros de acci\u00f3n (religiosa, cultural y pol\u00edtica) para todas estas mujeres. nuevos enfoques derivados del feminismo y los estudios de g\u00e9nero aportan precisiones al debate sobre lo p\u00fablico y lo privado en la dinast\u00eda de los austrias. Por ejemplo, mediante la peculiar posici\u00f3n de sofonisba anguissola, pintora y dama de la reina; o a trav\u00e9s del espacio palaciego, la separaci\u00f3n entre ambas casas reales en el antiguo
