Se public\u00f3 al menos cuatro veces en el siglo xvi (las ediciones conocidas son: 1539, 1541, 1544, 1561) .  es un texto que se inspira en el  tratado ciceroniano  de senectute, y tamb\u00e9n en el del erasmo de roterdam praeparatio ad mortem. Se encuentra, por tanto, en la l\u00ednea divisoria entre lo viejo (el medievo) y lo nuevo (el renacimiento),es fruto, pues, de los movimientos espirituales renovadores t\u00edpicos de ese momento y de la necesidad de seguir modelos cl\u00e1sicos. De hecho de  cicer\u00f3n imita el tema (la vejez y todo lo que ella conlleva, y la muerte) y la forma, el di\u00e1logo. De erasmo sigue el ejemplo de la nueva espiritualidad, la preocupaci\u00f3n por el bien vivir pero, sobre todo, por el bien morir.  en fin, es un texto que pasa del ocuparse de las cosas del cuerpo a
