Es el primer procariota descrito que expresa todas las actividades enzim\u00e1ticas ppo caracterizadas hasta ahora. no obstante, las actividades enzim\u00e1ticas t\u00edpicas de tirosinasas como son cresolasa y catecol oxidasa son espec\u00edficamente activadas en presencia de sds en los extractos celulares. Tratamientos de la bacteria con el agente mutag\u00e9nico nitrosoguanidina permitieron obtener mutantes afectados en las actividades enzim\u00e1ticas t\u00edpicas de tirosinasa activables por sds pero que conservan las dem\u00e1s actividades (dmpo, so, th, do). Estos mutantes, como la cepoa ng56 son incapaces de producir melanina.  posteriores ensayos bioqu\u00edmicos purificaron ambas enzimas por separado. la tirosinasa presenta las actividades cresolasa y catecolasa t\u00edpicas de las tirosinasas. Es activable por sds. Esta enzima se encuentra mayoritariamente en la fracci\u00f3n soluble de los extractos celulares. Existe otra enzima ppo adicional asociada a membrana con una amplia afinidad por diferentes sustratos. predomina en ella la actividad lacasa, aunque tambi\u00e9n posee cierto grado de actividades th y do no activables por sds.  con el fin de intentar clonar el gen que codifica la tirosinasa se obtuvo un mutante de esta bacteria mediante transposici\u00f3n al que se denomin\u00f3 t101. el transpos\u00f3n trunc\u00f3 el gen que codificaba la enzima multipotente de membrana, lo que permiti\u00f3 la clonaci\u00f3n y secuenciaci\u00f3n de dicho gen. El gen se denomin\u00f3 ppoa, y fue el primer caso descrito de clonaci\u00f3n de una lacasa bacteriana. el hecho de que el mutante t101 sea capaz de producir melanina indica que ppoa no es la principal enzima responsable de la melanog\u00e9nesis en marinomonas mediterranea.  en esta tesis se ha obtenido un segundo mutante amelanog\u00e9nico mediante transposici\u00f3n llamado t105
