La \u00e9poca de felipe iii, felipe iv y carlos ii asiste al desarrollo de la literatura emblem\u00e1tica, un g\u00e9nero ligado a los consejos y ejemplos morales que se dedican al soberano en forma de proverbios, emblemas, empresas o jerogl\u00edficos. La larga crisis pol\u00edtica y econ\u00f3mica por la que atraviesa nuestro pa\u00eds durante esa centuria hace que se publique una larga lista de arbitrios, tratados pol\u00edticos y espejos de pr\u00edncipes, muchos de los cuales se ilustran con estampas, siguiendo la moda inaugurada por alciato en su obra emblemata, publicada en augsburgo en 1531. En ellos es frecuente encontrar expresiones del tipo \u00absemejante al arpa es una rep\u00fablica\u00bb o \u00abel pr\u00edncipe prudente temple las cuerdas\u00bb, junto a im\u00e1genes de instrumentos musicales con imagen del reino justo y am\u00f3nico, encarnaci\u00f3n del estado moderno, que muestran el modo en que las distintas cuerdas 3\/4 los s\u00fabditos 3\/4 deben guardar la debida consonancia, desempe\u00f1ando cada uno la funci\u00f3n que d\u00edos le ha destinado en el seno de su sociedad 3\/4 al tiempo que el dirigente se presenta como el m\u00fasico perfecto, capaz de templar las cuerdas sin romperlas y de lograr una \u00absuav\u00edsima armon\u00eda\u00bb. estos motivos iconogr\u00e1ficos pasan del libro grabado a otras manifestaciones art\u00edsticas, como las arquitecturas y decoraciones ef\u00edmeras en fiestas ciudadanas dedicadas a la monarqu\u00eda. El tema nos permite acercarnos a la compresi\u00f3n del cosmos y del estado de la \u00e9poca, as\u00ed como aumentar nuestros conocimientos sobre temas de m\u00fasica en el arte relacionados con la mitolog\u00eda (con personajes como mercurio o orfeo, representantes del gobierno temperado) o la vanitas (la naturaleza muerta con instrumentos musicales como expresi\u00f3n del desacuerdo
