Esa reaccion utiliza en muchos casos zeolitas como catalizador, en orden a lograr conversiones y selectividades adecuadas para la sintesis preferente de para-xileno, de gran importancia como precursor de algunos productos importantes para la industria textil.  las distribuciones de para y orto isomeros no son explicables en algunos casos a partir de las distribuciones de carga del tolueno en las diferentes posiciones de alquilacion. Las interacciones entre orbitales frontera, homo y lumo del tolueno y el agente alquilante pueden ayudar a comprender la selectividad del proceso. Se ha demostrado, utilizando el modelo cluster y mediante calculos quimico-cuanticos, la existencia de control orbital en esta reaccion. El control orbital, mas favorable en el proceso de alquilacion en la posicion \u00abpara\u00bb, se ve incrementado adicionalmente por el efecto de confinamiento del tolueno en los microporos de la zeolita. Este efecto depende del tipo de zeolita utilizado, y permite optimizar el catalizador para cada caso concreto.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
