Partimos de la idea de que tanto los modelos de calidad como los modelos de evaluaci\u00f3n son meras herramientas y que el \u00e9xito de las mismas en el mundo universitario se ha de valorar por los resultados reales que tengan sobre las tres actividades a las que se dedican las instituciones universitarias: docencia, investigaci\u00f3n y gesti\u00f3n. A lo largo de la tesis el aspecto que m\u00e1s nos interesa, por ser el menos investigado es el primero de ellos, la docencia.     a lo largo del trabajo se hace una revisi\u00f3n cr\u00edtica de las aportaciones m\u00e1s relevantes sobre calidad y evaluaci\u00f3n, con el fin de lograr una s\u00edntesis de los enfoques de ambas disciplinas aplicables a la educaci\u00f3n superior. As\u00ed mismo se examinan las distintas iniciativas llevadas a cabo por la uni\u00f3n europea en estas materias, ya que consideramos que los poderes p\u00fablicos han jugado un papel importante en la potenciaci\u00f3n de uno u otro modelo.     finalmente, se analizan los programas de evaluaci\u00f3n que desde las agencias de evaluaci\u00f3n se han aplicado en el per\u00edodo 1992-2005 en tres pa\u00edses europeos: reino unido, suecia y espa\u00f1a. Con esta revisi\u00f3n se pretende un doble objetivo, en primer lugar, conocer si se da una convergencia en los sistemas y m\u00e9todos de evaluaci\u00f3n utilizados y en segundo lugar, averiguar si
