Aunque se han realizado muchos estudios de los tapetes microbianos como modelo de ecosistema microbiano aun existen muchas inc\u00f3gnitas sobre los ciclos bioqu\u00edmicos, las asociaciones cooperativas y sobre la taxonom\u00eda de los miembros que integran este sistema.     el principal objetivo de este trabajo fue la aplicaci\u00f3n de t\u00e9cnicas nuevas y la combinaci\u00f3n con otras existentes para obtener una visi\u00f3n integrada de la estructura y fisiolog\u00eda, y tambi\u00e9n analizar la informaci\u00f3n obtenida por \u00e9stas para caracterizar poblaciones microbianas menos conocidas pero implicadas en procesos importantes. Se puede concluir que la aplicaci\u00f3n de la t\u00e9cnica de biomarcadores lip\u00eddicos se\u00f1al ha demostrado ser un m\u00e9todo efectivo para obtener informaci\u00f3n sobre este tipo de ecosistemas. Adem\u00e1s, la combinaci\u00f3n del an\u00e1lisis lip\u00eddico con m\u00e9todos basados en \u00e1cidos nucleicos en etapas microbianos a diferente profundidad, ha proporcionado informaci\u00f3n muy \u00fatil sobre la din\u00e1mica temporal y espacial de las poblaciones y sobre su afiliaci\u00f3n taxon\u00f3mica. Este estudio ha revelado la importancia de bacterias heterotrofas en las capas fotosint\u00e9ticas, la presencia de bacterias verdes del azufre en numerosos nichos, y de bacterias fermentadoras en las capas m\u00e1s profundas. Por otra parte, los an\u00e1lisis de divergencia han sugerido que los cambios relacionados con la profundidad parecen tener mayor influencia que los cambios temporales. El an\u00e1lisis de quinonas respiratorias en muestras de tapetes ha aportado estimaciones de biomasa, composici\u00f3n taxon\u00f3mica y estado redox de la comunidad. En este caso, se han observado importantes diferencias en la estructura de la comunidad y en el estado redox en tapetes microbianos de diferente localizaci\u00f3n, y que eran aparentemente bastante similares.
