Sin embargo,  esta funci\u00f3n s\u00f3lo es una m\u00e1s ya que, bajo una iconograf\u00eda de diosa guerrera, la diosa esconde una naturaleza muy compleja y, a veces, contradictoria.  as\u00ed, en asia menor atenea aparece como una divinidad dual, siguiendo los pasos de algunas diosas anat\u00f3licas y pr\u00f3ximo orientales. Ella es , al mismo tiempo, protectora del universo femenino (en todas sus facetas) y del mundo c\u00edvico (incluyendo, por supuesto, la guerra). No obstante, esta doble naturaleza que conocemos para todo el periodo que abarca la presencia de la diosa en asia menor (desde el viii a. C. Al iv d. C.), Evoluciona en el tiempo y en el espacio. Es preciso pues, contextualizar los cultos en su marco hist\u00f3rico y geogr\u00e1fico correspondiente pues, al ser la religi\u00f3n una parte de la cultura griega, evoluciona al mismo tiempo que ella.  debido a la riqueza cultual que hemos encontrado bajo unos aspectos formales m\u00e1s bien homog\u00e9nenos, es posible hablar m\u00e1s bien de cultos en plural que de culto en
