Su objetivo fundamental es dar a conocer las composiciones que se vierten en ellos, ofreciendo una edici\u00f3n filol\u00f3gicamente cuidada. La investigaci\u00f3n comprende tres grandes partes: en la primera se estudia la producci\u00f3n religiosa transmitida en pliegos sueltos, teniendo en cuenta el contexto social, ideol\u00f3gico y espiritual-religioso, as\u00ed como otras cuestiones consideradas de vital importancia, como la censura inquisitorial, los autores de los pliegos y su p\u00fablico, la ret\u00f3rica y la variedad formal, \u00ablo popular\u00bb y la denominada \u00abreligiosidad \u00fatil\u00bb; asimismo, se incluye un estudio tem\u00e1tico de estos impresos, clasificados en cristol\u00f3gicos, marianos, hagiogr\u00e1ficos, de milagros y apariciones, de doctrina cristiana y de moral cristiana. En la segunda parte se ofrece el repertorio bibliogr\u00e1fico (328 registros), comprendido no s\u00f3lo por los pliegos sueltos po\u00e9ticos religiosos del siglo xvi que se conservan, sino tambi\u00e9n por aquellas noticias directas o indirectas que justifican la existencia de pliegos sueltos que no han llegado hasta nosotros; los problemas de configuraci\u00f3n del corpus y los criterios de ordenaci\u00f3n de las entradas se detallan profusamente, si bien la clasificaci\u00f3n resultante se adscribe a par\u00e1metros tem\u00e1tico-formales, a\u00f1adi\u00e9ndose a la anteriormente mencionada los grupos: \u00abextravagantes\u00bb y \u00abde dif\u00edcil adscripci\u00f3n\u00bb. La tercera parte la conforma la edici\u00f3n de los pliegos sueltos religiosos en verso no editados ni publicados hasta la fecha, tarea que ha sido desarrollada tras establecer criterios
