Para plantear posibles tratamientos de reactivaci\u00f3n de catalizadores es necesario identificar previamente las principales causas que podr\u00edan originar su desactivaci\u00f3n. Por tanto, este trabajo presenta un exhaustivo estudio de caracterizaci\u00f3n y medidas de actividad catal\u00edtica de los doc comerciales. El objetivo es conocer las posibles causas (qu\u00edmico\/f\u00edsicas y t\u00e9rmicas) que originan su desactivaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como el impacto relativo de cada una de ellas en la actuaci\u00f3n catal\u00edtica del doc. Hay que destacar la gran dificultad que presenta la caracterizaci\u00f3n de catalizadores comerciales, donde la toma de muestra (coordenadas longitudinales y radiales) y la selecci\u00f3n de la forma f\u00edsica de la misma (polvo, l\u00e1minas de monolito o peque\u00f1os cilindros) resultan claves para el an\u00e1lisis. La presencia de cordierita (soporte cer\u00e1mico monol\u00edtico) y de agentes contaminantes singulariza el estudio de caracterizaci\u00f3n de la fase activa (pt) y del \u00abwashcoat\u00bb (constituido fundamentalmente por -al2o3).  en primer lugar, se ha procedido a caracterizar los contaminantes presentes en catalizadores comerciales, extra\u00eddos de autom\u00f3viles con diferente kilometraje: 48.000 y 77.000 km, en relaci\u00f3n a otro sin usar, empleado como referencia. destaca la presencia de f\u00f3sforo y azufre destacan como contaminantes mayoritarios de los doc. Estos dos elementos inorg\u00e1nicos reaccionan con el \u00abwashcoat\u00bb originando alpo4 y al2(so4)3, lo que ocasiona la desactivaci\u00f3n catal\u00edtica del catalizador. Tambi\u00e9n se ha detectado la presencia, en menores cantidades de si, ca, zn y fe. En cuanto a la caracterizaci\u00f3n de los contaminantes org\u00e1nicos, se ha determinado la presencia de coque y de residuos carbonosos de baja relaci\u00f3n h\/c.
