Aunque su actividad ha sido ampliamente demostrada en laboratorio, su eficacia insecticida en condiciones de campo puede verse mermada debido a factores como la heterogeneidad de las poblaciones larvarias de la plaga, condiciones ambientales adversas, etc. En esta tesis se han estudiado tres nucleopoliedrovirus (npvs) que afectan a larvas de tres especies de insectos del g\u00e9nero spodoptera, s. Exigua mnpv (semnpv), s. Littoralis mnpv (splimnpv) y s. Frugiperda mnpv), las cuales constituyen plagas importantes en distintos cultivos de las zonas templadas y subtropicales del mundo. Se ha comparado la actividad insecticida (patogenicidad y virulencia) de tres variantes genot\u00edpicas de estos virus en larvas de s. Exigua, s. Littoralis y s. Frugiperda. para cada hu\u00e9sped el virus m\u00e1s patog\u00e9nico y virulento fue su npv hom\u00f3logo y la mejor actividad insecticida se obtuvo con el semnpv para larvas de s. Exigua. El splimnpv fue el que tuvo mejor actividad insecticida en hu\u00e9spedes heter\u00f3logos; sin embargo, su patogenicidad para s. Frugiperda fue demasiado alta para considerarlo viable en aplicaciones de campo contra esta plaga. la adici\u00f3n del abrillantador \u00f3ptico tinopal lpw al splimnpv produjo una mejora significativa de su patogenicidad en las tres especies de spodoptera aunque en s. Frugiperda fue menos importante que en las otras dos especies.  dado su mayor potencial insecticida, el sistema hu\u00e9sped-virus estudiado en mayor profundidad fue el de s. Exigua y su npv hom\u00f3logo. En este sistema, el tinopal lpw mejor\u00f3 de forma significativa la patogenicidad del virus en todos los estadios larvarios aunque fue mucho m\u00e1s importante en los dos \u00faltimos. En larvas l4 y l5 el efecto del tinopal lpw redujo la dosis letal media del virus 70 y 580 veces, respectivamente.
