Un dise\u00f1o adecuado de materiales laminados puede dar lugar a un comportamiento superior al de los materiales monol\u00edticos que lo constituyen, en t\u00e9rminos de tolerancia al tama\u00f1o de defecto. En general, los materiales monol\u00edticos que presentan tolerancia al tama\u00f1o de defecto muestran bajos valores de tensi\u00f3n de fractura. Por ello, el objetivo principal de esta tesis es el dise\u00f1o y caracterizaci\u00f3n de materiales cer\u00e1micos laminados que combinan valores de tensi\u00f3n de fractura del orden de la de los materiales de al\u00famina y tolerancia a los defectos. Para ello, se desarrollan materiales laminados con base al\u00famina &#8211; titanato de aluminio, dado la amplia variedad de microestructuras y respuestas mec\u00e1nicas de estos compuestos.  para desarrollar estos materiales laminados, es necesario determinar las propiedades de los materiales monol\u00edticos obtenidos en las mismas condiciones de fabricaci\u00f3n con objeto de establecer la relaci\u00f3n entre su comportamiento mec\u00e1nico y el de este mismo material formando una capa. Se estudian materiales monol\u00edticos de al\u00famina &#8211; titanato de aluminio con diferentes contenidos de segunda fase (10, 30 y 40 % en volumen), con microestructura controlada debido al uso de dos tratamientos t\u00e9rmicos l\u00edmite (1450 \u00c2\u00bac &#8211; 2h y 1550 \u00c2\u00bac &#8211; 3h).  dado que en la actualidad no existen m\u00e9todos est\u00e1ndar aceptados para la caracterizaci\u00f3n mec\u00e1nica de materiales cer\u00e1micos compuestos monol\u00edticos y laminados, parte del trabajo se dedica al estudio de m\u00e9todos de caracterizaci\u00f3n adecuados. Se analizan las condiciones para conseguir ensayos de fractura estables y cuantificar los diferentes par\u00e1metros de fractura no lineal; trabajo de fractura ( wof) y tenacidad de fractura (curva r
