Estas pel\u00edculas est\u00e1n basadas en matrices de un material cristal liquido que contienen un colorante dicroico. Para la aplicaci\u00f3n final es critica un alto orden de las mol\u00e9culas de colorante dicroico en la matriz de cristal liquido. Debido al alto orden que presenta el estudio se ha centrado en la fase smb. La mayor\u00eda de los polarizadores actuales est\u00e1n basados en capas de pvauniaxialmente que incorpora mol\u00e9culas de iodo o de colorante dicroico. Este tipo de polarizadores requiere una serie de capas protectoras de trietilcelulosa y adem\u00e1s es necesario el uso de adhesivo para su laminaci\u00f3n sobre el soporte de vidrio. Este tipo de polarizadores se sit\u00faan en el exterior de la celda de cristal liquido ya que no son estables en las condiciones ende construcci\u00f3n del dispositivo cristal liquido. La substituci\u00f3n de estos polarizadores tradicionales por pel\u00edculas polarizadoras basadas en cristales l\u00edquido reactivos permitir\u00eda su incorporaci\u00f3n en el interior de la celda. Esto supone una serie de ventajas entre las que se encuentran la obtenci\u00f3n de dispositivos de un menor espesor y peso, eliminaci\u00f3n de efectos \u00f3pticos, obtenci\u00f3n de dispositivos mas robustos, ya que el exterior de la celda esta ahora formado por el substrato de vidrio. Ta su vez permitir\u00eda la utilizaci\u00f3n de otros tipos de substratos como que antes eran descartados debido a su alta birefringencia y que permitir\u00eda tambi\u00e9n el desarrollo de dispositivos flexibles. Las pel\u00edculas polarizadoras basadas en cristales l\u00edquidos reactivos pueden ser preparadas mediante deposici\u00f3n lo que elimina el uso de adhesivo tanto si son aplicadas en el interior como en el exterior. El funcionamiento de un polarizador viene determinado en gran mediada por la eficiencia de dicho polarizador.
