Con el objetivo de conocer el papel de la enzima pect\u00edn metil esterasa durante la maduraci\u00f3n del fruto de fresa, se ha estudiado diferentes l\u00edneas transg\u00e9nicas de fragaria vesca que sobreexpresan fape1, una isoenzima pect\u00edn metil esterasa de fragaria x ananassa asociada a maduraci\u00f3n.  la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de fape1 altera la composici\u00f3n de la pared celular, presentando dicha pared un menor grado de esterificaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como una distribuci\u00f3n m\u00e1s en bloque de los grupos \u00e9steres de la pectina.  asimismo, presentan una mayor concentraci\u00f3n de iones calcio y magnesio que posiblemente neutralicen el mayor n\u00famero de grupos carboxilatos presentes generados por esta desmetilaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s en bloque.  posiblemente, estos cambios en la pared celular generan una mayor concentraci\u00f3n de oligosacrinas que hacen que la planta est\u00e9 en sar y esto explicar\u00eda el fenotipo de un menor crecimiento del hongo botrytis cinerea cuando \u00e9ste es inyectado en el fruto arrancando. Las plantas fape1 tienen una mayor concentraci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido salic\u00edlico, as\u00ed como mayor expresi\u00f3n del gen pr5.  por otro lado, la sobreexpresi\u00f3n de fape1 provoca un cambio en la composici\u00f3n de ceras epecuticulares, haciendo a estas m\u00e1s amorfas y este cambio favorece la interacci\u00f3n de la espora de honbo b.Cinerea cuando \u00e9ste es deposita sobre el
