En dicha teoria juega un papel fundamental una clase especial de grafos orientados, que llamamos h-arboles, que es para metodos simplecticos el concepto analogo al de p-arbol para metodos particionados generales. El concepto paralelo al de p-serie es en cambio el de unas series formales de funciones escalares, con un termino para cada h-arbol, que llamamos h-arboles. Dicha teoria nos permite, por un lado, hacer un analisis regresivo del error de metodos particionados simplecticos, y por otro obtener diversas caracterizaciones de las condiciones de orden
