Dichos genes han sido estudiados en el anfioxo, un invertebrado marion que, por su plano corporal, desarrollo embrionario y genoma protot\u00edpico respecto a los vertebrados, es actualmente considerado el pariente vivo m\u00e1s cercano al que fue el ancestro de los vertebrados. Este estudio describe la caracterizaci\u00f3n a nivel molecular y funcional del primer receptor trk jam\u00e1s aislado en un invertebrado, debatiendo la idea de que los receptores trk son una innovaci\u00f3n de los vertebrados, y sugiriendo que se origin\u00f3 por barajado de exones contenedores de dominios proteicos. asimismo la expresi\u00f3n de este gen durante el desarrollo embrionario del anfioxo ha revelado ciertas caracter\u00edsticas novedosas respecto al desarrollo de su sistema nervioso. Durante la neurulaci\u00f3n se ha probado la migraci\u00f3n individual de c\u00e9lulas ectod\u00e9rmics, lo que podr\u00eda reflejar un comportamiento parecido al de las c\u00e9lulas de la cresta neural de vertebrados, un tipo de c\u00e9lulas pluripotentes que dan lugar a un gran n\u00famero de estructuras \u00fanicamente presentes en los vertebrados y totalmente ausentes en el anfioxo.
