Asimismo se ha llegado a demostrar la implicacion de esta polimerasa en el mecanismo de reunion de extremos no homologos (nhej), mediante evidencia de sus interacciones con los factores de nhej, asi como su capacidad de llevar a cabo este tipo de reacciones in vitro (avalado todo ello con datos in vivo). Ademas se ha identificado un elemento estructural importante (el loop1) que es clave para la actividad transferasa terminal de esta polimerasa, siendo importante esta actividad para cierto tipo de reacciones de nhej, en concreto aquellas que conectan extremos con minima o nula microhomolog\u00eda, que son las reacciones en que esta polimerasa estaria fundamentalmente implicada a nivel
