Pertenece a la clase zygomicetes, caracterizada por tener una reproducci\u00f3n sexual por fusi\u00f3n de gametangios, presentar un micelio generalmente cenoc\u00edtico (en algunas especies pueden aparecer algunos septos), y producir esporas aflageladas e inm\u00f3viles.  el silenciamiento g\u00e9nico mediado por rna es un complejo mecanismo de regulaci\u00f3n g\u00e9nica, conservado en el mundo eucariota (una notable excepci\u00f3n es s. cerevisie), que conduce a la supresi\u00f3n de la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica mediada por peque\u00f1as mol\u00e9culas de rna que inducen la destrucci\u00f3n del mrna, impiden su traducci\u00f3n o inhiben su transcripci\u00f3n. Inicialmente descrito como un mecanismo de defensa molecular contra virus y transposones, en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se ha demostrado que este mecanismo tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 implicado en la regulaci\u00f3n de complejos procesos como la formaci\u00f3n de heterocromatina, el desarrollo y la fisiolog\u00eda de los organismos. Adem\u00e1s de revelar un mundo de regulaci\u00f3n g\u00e9nica hasta ahora desconocido, el silenciamiento g\u00e9nico mediado por rna se ha convertido en una herramienta fundamental en el estudio de la funci\u00f3n de los genes, permitiendo incluso el desarrollo de nuevas disciplinas como la gen\u00f3mica funcional  el objetivo global de este trabajo ha sido la caracterizaci\u00f3n molecular del mecanismo de silenciamiento g\u00e9nico post-transcripcional en el hongo m. Circinelloides:  m. Circinelloides presenta un mecanismo de silenciamiento g\u00e9nico inducido por transgenes que se pone de manifiesto al introducir copias ex\u00f3genas del gen chivato carb. El fenotipo silenciado es inestable y reversible, y es consecuencia directa de una fuerte reducci\u00f3n en los niveles de mrna maduro del gen carb.
