Debido a la efectividad y especificidad de estas prote\u00ednas, bt es considerado como un agente de control biol\u00f3gico seguro y compatible con otros m\u00e9todos de lucha aceptados en el manejo integrado de plagas (ipm). En este trabajo se ampl\u00edan los horizontes de uso de esta bacteria a trav\u00e9s de la b\u00fasqueda de nuevas cepas y prote\u00ednas. Para ello, se asil\u00f3 una colecci\u00f3n de b.Thuringiensis a partir de muestras de tierra de las islas canarias. Se obtuvieron 684 cepas de bt que mostraron una gran variabilidad en cuanto a sus perfiles proteicos. Sin embargo, aunque el contenido de las cepas en genes cry1, cry2 y cry9, fue muy bajo, varias cepas mostraron actividad contra larvas de lepid\u00f3pteros de especies fit\u00f3fagas, lo que hace pensar que la nueva colecci\u00f3n es una posible nueva fuente de nuevas prote\u00ednas cry, responsables de dicha actividad. Procedentes de otras colecci\u00f3n de aislados espa\u00f1oles se seleccionaron, por su interesante contenido g\u00e9nico, las cepas denominadas na118 y hu4-2. na118, sujeta ya a una solicitud de patente (p200101859), contiene 14 genes cry, incluyendo los de la clase cry9; y mostr\u00f3 una buena actividad contra larvas dechrysodeixis chalcites y trichoplusia n i. La cepa hu4-2, que posee 8 genes cry distintos, mostr\u00f3 una buena actividad para dos especies de g\u00e9neros distintos, helicoverpa armigera y spodoptera exigua, que son susceptibles a prote\u00ednas de distintas clases que no est\u00e1n presente, la mismo tiempo, en los bioinsecticidas comerciales. Adem\u00e1s, en esta cepa se detect\u00f3 la presencia de un posible nuevo gen cry. La orf del gen, de 2.2 kpb, fue clonada y secuenciada. La secuencia de amino\u00e1cidos deducida del gen present\u00f3 porcentajes de homolog\u00eda de entre un 89 y un 96% con prote\u00ednas de la clase cry1l, por lo que el nuevo gen recibi\u00f3 el nombre de cry1a7.
