Estas cepas son pr\u00e1cticamente intratables con antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos. La maquinaria necesaria para esta resistencia viene principalmente codificada por un diverg\u00f3n mec, que otorga a las c\u00e9lulas una estrategia de evasi\u00f3n frente a los antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos gracias al a s\u00edntesis de tres prote\u00ednas meca, mecr1 y mecl. meca (tambi\u00e9n denominada pbp2a) es una prote\u00edna de uni\u00f3n a penicilina (pbp) de baja afinidad pro los antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos, lo que la capacita para llevar a cabo el mantenimiento del peptidoglicano a\u00fan en presencia de \u00e9stos. La s\u00edntesis de esta prote\u00edna est\u00e1 regulada por un sistema de transducci\u00f3n de se\u00f1ales llevado a cabo por el resto de prote\u00ednas del divergen mec: un sensor de la presencia de antibi\u00f3ticos y transductor de la se\u00f1al denominado mecr1, y un represero transcripcional que se une espec\u00edficamente al promotor de meca reprimi\u00e9ndolo, denominado mecl.     mecl es una prote\u00edna de 14kda que para llevar a cabo su actividad a cabo su actividad represora dimeriza. Presenta dos dominios funcionales bien diferenciados: el n-terminal es el de uni\u00f3n al adn, y el c-terminal el de dimerizaci\u00f3n. Cuando la infecci\u00f3n bacteriana es \u00abatacada\u00bb con antibi\u00f3ticos beta-lact\u00e1micos, su presencia es detectada por mecr1, una metaloproteasas de membrana sensora\/transductora que a su vez, seg\u00fan se ha descrito, degrada espec\u00edficamente a mecl separado su dominio de uni\u00f3n al adn del de dimerizaci\u00f3n. En este estado mecl es incapaz de dimerizar, y como consecuencia, de unirse al promotor de meca.
