En particular presenta similitud con la prote\u00edna chs2 de saccharomyces cerevisiae, implicada en la s\u00edntesis de quitina del septo primario que se forma entre la c\u00e9lula madre y la hija durante la citoquinesis. A pesar de carecer de actividad catal\u00edtica quit\u00edn sintasa, la prote\u00edna chs2p de s.Pombe parece ejercer un papel estructural en la citoquinesis de este organismo.     la prote\u00edna chs2p se localiza en la zona de divisi\u00f3n celular, formando un anillo que se contrae precediendo a la s\u00edntesis del septo. Su localizaci\u00f3n depende del sistema general de secreci\u00f3n polarizada, de la existencia de un anillo de actomiosina funcional y de la se\u00f1al proporcionada por el complejo sin, que promueve el inicio de la septaci\u00f3n.     el gen chs2+ est\u00e1 relacionado funcionalmente con diversos componentes del anillo contr\u00e1ctil con los que presenta interacci\u00f3n g\u00e9nica. Uno de esos componentes es myo3p, una de las miosinas de tipo ii presentes en el anillo contr\u00e1ctil de esta levadura.     adem\u00e1s, chs2p, una prote\u00edna integral de membrana, presenta interacci\u00f3n f\u00edsica con esta prote\u00edna, myo3p, por lo que constituye un punto de anclaje del anillo contr\u00e1ctil a la membrana.    finalmente, chs2p participa en el mantenimiento de la integridad del anillo de actomiosina durante las etapas finales del proceso de contracci\u00f3n del mismo, ya que mutantes de deleci\u00f3n del gen  chs2+ presentan fragmentaciones parciales de dicho
