Se dividen en lacasas y tirosinasas y son enzimas de gran inter\u00e9s tanto biotecnol\u00f3gico (por su utilizaci\u00f3n en la degradaci\u00f3n de productos recalcitrantes, en la industria del papel, en la de colorantes y pigmentos, etc) como por su participaci\u00f3n en la bios\u00edntesis de melaninas que son pigmentos generalmente negros o marrones implicados en numerosas funciones, la mayor\u00eda de ellas de protecci\u00f3n. Se han encontrado en el genoma de ralstonia solanacearum hasta cuatro posibles genes que podr\u00edan codificar enzimas con actividad ppo.  entre los objetivos de la tesis doctoral se destacan la detecci\u00f3n y optimizaci\u00f3n de estas actividades ppo en r. Solanacearum, la mutag\u00e9nesis de los posibles genes responsables de las actividades y la purificaci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n de las enzimas con actividad ppo. Otro objetivo estar\u00e1 basado en la evaluaci\u00f3n de los efectos de la adici\u00f3n de fenoles en la fisiolog\u00eda de r. Solanacearum as\u00ed como de los posibles efectos en la capacidad infectiva de los mutantes frente a la cepa silvestre.  a trav\u00e9s de la construcci\u00f3n de mutantes nulos mediante recombinaci\u00f3n hom\u00f3loga pudimos disponer de los mutantes afectados en los diferentes genes susceptibles de codificar actividades ppo. Una vez obtenidos los extractos celulares de dichos mutantes observamos la p\u00e9rdida de una actividad ppo concreta asociada a cada uno de los genes mutados, que sin embargo no coincid\u00eda con la anotaci\u00f3n previa de estos productos g\u00e9nicos por lo que proponemos un cambio en la nomenclatura de los mismos, de manera que el producto del gen rsc0337 es una tirosinasa, el del gen rsc1501 es una catecol oxidasa y el gen rsp1530 codifica una lacasa. Se descart\u00f3 el estudio del gen rsp0656 por codificar una prote\u00edna de resistencia al cobre copa y no codificar por tanto una ppo.
