De esta forma qued\u00f3 demostrada la dependencia entre funcionalidad del sistema oxphos y capacidad motil de los espermatozoides. Una vez puesta de manifiesto esta relaci\u00f3n se estudi\u00f3 la incidencia de diversas mutaciones patol\u00f3gicas del mtdna que afectan a la cadena respiratoria en diversos pacientes y se vio que este tipo de mutaciones que causan enfermedades severas o moderadas no representaban una causa relevante de infertilidad masculina.  pero antes de descartar al mtdna como responsable de la p\u00e9rdida de la motilidad esperm\u00e1tica observada, decidimos estudiar otro tipo de mutaciones que fueran m\u00e1s frecuentes y que han sido consideradas en principio como polimorfismos que se utilizan para definir haplogrupos mitocondriales en estudios filogen\u00e9ticos. As\u00ed se realiz\u00f3 un extenso an\u00e1lisis de la distribuci\u00f3n de los haplogrupos mitocondriales cauc\u00e1sicos descritos en los 425 individuos disponibles. La distribuci\u00f3n obtenida, dado el alto grupo de muestras analizadas, era representativa de la poblaci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola en general, coincidiendo las frecuencias obtenidas con las europeas publicadas. posteriormente se realiz\u00f3 un estudio estad\u00edstico para ver si exist\u00eda asociaci\u00f3n entre los haplogrupos mitocondriales y fenotipo astenozoosp\u00e9rmico. Se puso de manifiesto que exist\u00eda una fuerte asociaci\u00f3n entre el haplogrupo h y la buena movilidad esperm\u00e1tica y el haplogrupo t y el fenotipo astenozoosp\u00e9rmico moderado.  finalmente hicimos analizar si el que haplogrupos establecidos en la poblaci\u00f3n, como el t, puedan favorecer la astenozoospermia sin provocar manifestaciones aparentes en otros tejidos se
