Para estudiar esta hip\u00f3tesis hemos analizado el efecto del pretratamiento con desferoxamina en la muerte de las neuronas dopamin\u00e9rgicas inducida por una injecci\u00f3n intraestriatal de mpp+ en ratas. El pretratamiento con desferoxamina redujo de forma importante el contenido de hierro en la sustancia negra compacta (snc) pero no evit\u00f3 la muerte de las c\u00e9lulas dopamin\u00e9rgicas.  en otro experimento, la injecci\u00f3n intraestriatal de mpp+ result\u00f3 en una reducci\u00f3n significativa de c\u00e9lulas inmunoreactivas para tirosina hidroxilasa (ir-th) en la snc homolateral a la lesi\u00f3n en comparaci\u00f3n con el lado contralateral. la disminuci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas ir-th fue paralela a la disminuci\u00f3n de los niveles  de dopamina (da) y sus metabolistos (dopac y hva).  la reducci\u00f3n m\u00e1s pronunciada de c\u00e9lulas ir-th y los niveles de da fue observada en las ratas sacrificadas 15 dias despues de la injecci\u00f3n. Se observ\u00f3 una recuperaci\u00f3n parcial de los niveles de da y el numero de celulas ir-th a lo largo de un periodo de 60 dias, probablemente debido a una desinhibici\u00f3n de la enzima th.  se encontraron cuerpos apopt\u00f3ticos en la snc homolateral y en otros nucleos de los ganglios basales relacionados con el estriado. Tambien se detect\u00f3 una proliferaci\u00f3n glial en la snc homolateral a la injecci\u00f3n de mpp+ que alcanz\u00f3 su valor m\u00e1ximo en los animales sacrificados a los 60 dias despues de la administraci\u00f3n de la toxina.  estos resultados demuestran que la muerte de las celulas dopaminergicas de la sn y de otros n\u00facleos de los ganglios basales inducida por el mpp+ es apoptotica. Por otro lado, la muerte neuronal inducida por una injecc\u00f3n intraestriatal de mpp+ sigue un patron temporal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
