Se ha articulado en 4 periodos cronol\u00f3gicos, en funci\u00f3n de elementos de \u00edndole desigual -t\u00e9cnicos, sociales, comerciales, etc.- Con el apoyo de la historiograf\u00eda fotogr\u00e1fica (newhall 1982, rouile 1982. Mccaulety 1944, entre otros). El primer per\u00edodo es el de los inicios (1839-1853), en donde se busca, por una parte, incidir en los primeros usos del daguerrotipo asociados al \u00e1mbito editorial y a la litograf\u00eda en el marco del romanticismo literario, y, por otra, ahondar en la infraestructura de los primeros gabinetes, y la relaci\u00f3n de la fotograf\u00eda con la ministura pict\u00f3rica. El segundo per\u00edodo (1854-1880), es el del asentamiento del medio comercial. El tercer per\u00edodo (1881-1913) es el de la expansi\u00f3n del medio porque se inauguran numerosos talleres en diferentes localidades de la isla gracias a la retrat\u00edstica y a la disponibilidad de los fot\u00f3grafos profesionales, porque la fotograf\u00eda se introduce gradualmente en el registro gr\u00e1fico de revistas de car\u00e1cter costumbrista como -la ignorancia y la roqueta- y de actualidades -vida isle\u00f1a- y porque el fot\u00f3grafo aficionado deviene un agente imprescindible del tejido fotogr\u00e1fico. El cuarto per\u00edodo (1914-1936) es el de la homogeneidad iconogr\u00e1fica con el desarrollo de la fotograf\u00eda paisag\u00edstica y etnogr\u00e1fica, la pervivencia de la retrat\u00edstica
