Aquellos factores tr\u00f3ficos que actuan en el sistema nervioso se denominan factores neuotr\u00f3ficos, siendo los principales el bdnf, ngf, nt-3,nt-4\/5. Esas sustancias actuan en las celulas a traves de unos receptores de membrana denominados trk.  hasta ahora todos los estudios realizados se basaban en tejido nervioso central y periferico. En esta tesis doctoral hemos estudiado la presencia y distribucion de dichos receptores en los islotes de langerhans del pancreas de humano, rata y rat\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s se realizo una parte experimental en que se administraba a ratas estreptozotocina, que es una sustancia que destruye selectivamente las c\u00e9lulas productoras de insulina y estudiamos la distribuci\u00f3n de los receptores de neurotrofinas y se compar\u00f3 con las c\u00e9lulas secretoras hormonales de dichos islotes pancre\u00e1ticos por otro lado, el 4-metilcatecol, es un alquilcatecol capaz de inducir la s\u00edntesis de ngf. A partir de estos datos, administramos dicha sustancia a ratas normales, y a ratas diab\u00e9ticas tras la administraci\u00f3n de estreptozotocina. Por \u00faltimo, se estudi\u00f3 la distribuci\u00f3n de estos receptores de neurotrofinas en ratones transg\u00e9nicos, es decir, animales manipulados gen\u00e9ticamente con deficit total o parcial del gen que codifica el bdnf y otros animales con deficit total o parcial de trkb.  en nuestros resultados, tras los datos morfol\u00f3gicos, inmunohistoquimica, analisis de imagen, morfom\u00e9tricos y estad\u00edsticos, concluimos que los islotes expresan receptores para las neurotrofinas y que existe una colocaci\u00f3n entre las c\u00e9lulas productoras de insulina y el trka, y las c\u00e9lulas productoras de glucagon y el trkb,y se comprob\u00f3 en humanos, ratas y ratones. En los animales experimentales en que administr\u00f3 4-metilcatecol, persiste esta relaci\u00f3n y adem\u00e1s se comprob\u00f3 un aumento en la sintesis de ngf.
