Para determinar las condiciones optimas, es preciso definir una funcion objetivo cuyo optimo determina las mejoras condiciones de operaci\u00f3n. Para realizar esta tarea, se utilizan algoritmos de optimizacion que requieren la evaluacion de la funcion objetivo en cada etapa del proceso de optimizacion. En este sentido, el uso de modelos matematicos permite reducir el trabajo a realizar ya que, durante el proceso de optimizacion, se utiliza el modelo matematico para simular la respuesta del sistema evitando la realizacion de nuevos experimentos.  en la presente tesis se ha desarrollado una metodolog\u00eda, que basada en la integracion de modelos matematicos i algoritmos de optimizacion, facilita la optimizacion de sistemas fia i sia. La metodolog\u00eda ha sido aplicada haciendo uso de tecnicas clasicas de modelizacion y optimizacion y de tecnicas alternativas que provienen del campo de la inteligencia artificial. El estudio de diversas configuraciones de sistemas en flujo ha permitido desarrollar una metodolog\u00eda versatil y robusta asi como evaluar y comparar las diferentes tecnicas utilizadas.
