Su principal uso es la separaci\u00f3n de mezclas de gases por adsorci\u00f3n selectiva en los sistemas psa, basada en las diferentes velocidades de difusi\u00f3n de las mol\u00e9culas a trav\u00e9s de su textura microporosa.  el objetivo de la tesis fue la preparaci\u00f3n de tamices moleculares de carbono a partir de carbones minerales siguiendo dos m\u00e9todos alternativos:a) la oxidaci\u00f3n controlada de carbones minerales. B) el dep\u00f3sito quimico de carbono en fase vapor sobre carbonos activados, por pir\u00f3losis de benceno, generando constricciones controladas en la boca de los microporos.  se eligieron cuatro carbones con distinto contenido en materias vol\u00e1tiles, desde un carb\u00f3n bituminoso de contenido alto en materia vol\u00e1til(39,5%) hasta una antracita(7,7%). A partir de estos carbones se prepararon series de materiales y se estudi\u00f3 la influencia de las variables que intervienen en cada uno de los m\u00e9todos de preparaci\u00f3n.  la textura porosa de los materiales preparados se estudi\u00f3 mediante los m\u00e9todos convencionales de an\u00e1lisis de s\u00f3lidos porosos y, principalmente, mediante calorimetr\u00eda de inmersi\u00f3n en l\u00edquidos org\u00e1nicos con tama\u00f1os de mol\u00e9cula entre 0,33 nm(diclorometano) y 0,8 nm( a-pineno). Se prepararon matices moleculares de carbono con distribuci\u00f3n de microporos preferente en el intervalo 0,41-0,54 nm por activaci\u00f3n suave de los carbones preoxidados. la pir\u00f3lisis de benceno sobre carbones activados limita la accesibilidad de los microporos, debido al cierre progresivo por dep\u00f3sito de \u00e1tomos de carbono sobre sus bocas, generando materiales con distribuciones estrechas de anchura de poro: inferiores a 0,33 nm, en torno a 0,33 nm,0,33-0,41 nm y 0,41-0,54 nm.  se ensayaron cin\u00e9ticas de adsorci\u00f3n de gases puros en los matices
